
Two BayHawks Make 2014 All-Star Roster

ANNAPOLIS, MD - In its 14th year, the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star Game will be held at Harvard Stadium in Boston, MA on Thursday, June 26th, 2014. Of the 24 MLL players chosen to the 2014 All-Star team, two were selected from the Chesapeake Bayhawks roster. This year, the MLL All Stars will host Team USA as they prepare for the 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Championships in Denver, Colorado, starting July 10.
Representing the Bayhawks for selection in the 2014 All-Star game are attackman Drew Westervelt and midfielder Joe Walters . In four games, Westervelt (5th nomination) has tallied a total of eight points with four goals and four assists while Walters (7th nomination), who made his debut for the Bayhawks on June 5th, has recorded two assists.
Chesapeake had seven players chosen for the USA Men's National roster, tied with the New York Lizards for most of any MLL team.
Bayhawks players competing in the 2014 All-Star game for Team USA are attackmen Brendan Mundorf and Matt Mackrides, defensemen Michael Evans and Jesse Bernhardt, and midfielders Matt Abbott, Jeff Reynolds and Dan Burns .
On offense, Mundorf (a two-time World Champion) leads the team in goals with 12 and tallies a total of 18 points with 6 assists. Mackrides is close behind with a total of 8 points on 7 goals and 1 assist. Abbott rounds out the offensive line-up with 6 points on 4 goals and 2 assists.
From the defensive end, Reynolds and Burns have tallied 8 and 11 ground balls over 5 games, respectively, while Bernhardt leads the Bayhawks in ground balls with 21. Evans rounds out the roster with his shut down defense.
Team USA will be coached by Richie Meade and the Chesapeake Bayhawks Head Coach Dave Cottle will oversee Team MLL.
The All-Stars will also be wearing specially designed jerseys that will be auctioned off following the game to benefit Wounded Warrior Project, the 2014 All-Star Game's charity.
The MLL All-Star Game is the league's marquee event and consistently draws large crowds to watch the world's top lacrosse talent compete on a single field. It is home to the league's skills competition, in which players showcase specialty skills that would not be seen during regular games. This year's MLL All-Star Game takes place on Thursday, June 26th at 7:30 pm in Boston, MA, at Harvard Stadium, and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network and in 175 U.S. territories including U.S. military installations, U.S. embassies and U.S. consulates through the American Forces Network.
