Player Spotlight: Isaiah Davis-Allen

October 20, 2020 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Chesapeake Bayhawks News Release

2020 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Man of the Year, Isaiah Davis-Allen, is dedicating his off-season to growing the game.

"[I'm] trying to make it more inclusive for everyone," Davis Allen said. "Not just Black and white, but for all the people who come from a different socioeconomic background."

In a typical year, Davis-Allen plays for the Chesapeake Bayhawks, the Philadelphia Wings, and is a Project Engineer. But, this is no typical year.

He said that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, his job has not changed much because construction in Maryland never stopped. Davis-Allen goes into work at least two times a week.

The pandemic has allowed people to reinvest time in passions and hobbies. Davis-Allen has used his extra time to start coaching again. He coaches for Blackwolf and is doing free clinics with Living Classrooms in Baltimore.

Davis-Allen said the most satisfying thing about coaching is seeing young players progress, not only on the field but off.

"I've been at it long enough now where you see kids coming back who you used to coach and are in college, now-in a better stage," Davis Allen said. "The most rewarding part is when you see that they're happy with the choices that they've made."

Davis-Allen, widely considered to be one of the fastest players in Major League Lacrosse, has had to make changes to his typical offseason workout routines due to the pandemic. He said when gyms closed in March, he bought a jump rope and a bunch of workout bands so he could maintain his speed and continue to stay in shape.

Davis-Allen said he never thought he'd be at the forefront of sparking a change in the lacrosse community, but that it's important for him to fight this battle - so the next generation doesn't have to.
