The Arkansas Twisters are going to help welcome home the USS Razorback submarine this Sunday as part of festivities planned for its arrival along the banks of the Arkansas River.
Twisters' President Jack Lankford will attend along with members of the Sirens dance team and the Twisters inflatable helmet will be available for public walk thru.
The festivities start at 2pm and will include the official arrival of the USS Razorback at the North Shore Riverwalk just blocks south of the Twisters' office at the corner of Broadway and Broadway, a patriotic ceremony and entertainment performances. Broadway veteran Lawrence Hamilton, the Official U.S. Ceremonial Navy Band, the 106th U.S. Army Band and the Arkansas Air National Guard C-130 Flyover will be on hand. Also highlighting the celebration will be local favorites the Groan-Ups and Deja Voodoo, international cruise line favorites Donna and Barry Humphries, the North Little Rock Antique Plane Squad with World War II vintage aircraft and the Arkansas Twisters. The University of Arkansas Razorback Pep Band will make a special appearance, and the climax to the evening will be a patriotic fireworks celebration finale. A flotilla of yachts and recreational boats will also escort the submarine home.
Members of the Twisters staff will help welcome the sub when it arrives at 5pm to its new home. Picnic-style food options from local food and beverage vendors will be available for sale throughout the day. The main public entrance will be through Willow Street near the Broadway Bridge. The event is free and open to the public.
