Arkansas Diamonds News Release
The Arkansas Twisters started its game against Oklahoma City on fire, but the Yard Dawgz fought fire with fire, and came away with a 75-54 win. It all started from the first play from scrimmage for Arkansas. Kevin Williams rushed for 36 yards on the opening play and finished the drive two plays later with a one yard plunge to give the Twisters the early lead. That began a series where each team scored on its first two possessions. The turning point came in the second quarter when Kevin Williams was hit on his blind side, and fumbled the football. Former Twister James Landers recovered the fumble, which led to an Oklahoma City touchdown. Oklahoma City scored 14 points off two Twisters' turnovers in the first half, and led 41-19 at halftime.
The Twisters began chipping away at the lead when Reggie Cooley picked off the second pass of the half from Oklahoma City quarterback Craig Strickland and returned it for a touchdown. But Oklahoma City continued to pour it on offense. Strickland finished with a career high tying nine touchdown passes, five to Kris Peters and four to Timon Marshall. Kevin Williams finished with a Twisters team record 88 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns. He also completed 15 of 24 passes for 202 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Yard Dawgz improved to 6-2 on the year and remained in first place in the Southwest division, while Arkansas dropped to 1-7, losing its seventh straight game.
Arkansas hits the road again next weekend when the Twisters take on Tennessee Valley.
