Twins lose in Championship Game

August 13, 2019 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Texarkana Twins News Release

College Station, USA - The Twins just ran out of gas as they drop the TCL Championship to the Brazos Valley Bombers. The Twins fought hard and even lead throughout most of the game but the lack of pitching depth eventually showed.

It started with a bang for the Twins as Lee Thomas got his first hit of the postseason and it was a big one. Thomas was facing a 2-2 count when he got a hold of a ball and absolutely crushed a ball over the Right Field wall to give the Twins an early lead. The starter Zach Goree has had a very good first 5 innings. Giving up only 2 runs while striking out 4. However, then the sixth inning happened.

The Bombers ended up plating 6 runs in the inning to take a commanding 8-2 lead. The Twins tried valiantly to come back. They worked a lot of counts, had quality At-Bats, and got people on base but they were just never able to bring any runs home. The score ended up being 8-2 but that does not truly reflect this team's fight or determination.

The Twins had a fantastic season that had an unfortunate ending. They took the next step in their development as a team. From not making the playoffs to making the playoffs and getting knocked out early to making it, all the way to the TCL Championship. This team outperformed expectations and they will surely look to do the same next year.

Thank you to all the Twins fans for the support in College Station and to George Dobson Field throughout this season. The Twins will attempt to win their first TCL title next summer and they will need everyone's support if they want to achieve that goal.
