Austin Turfcats News Release

AUSTIN, Texas - Austin Turfcats' defensive back J.R. Turner has been named the Southern Indoor Football League's VIDSWAP.com Player Of The Week by virtue of his performance and fan vote.

This comes after a Turfcats 71-15 victory over the North Texas Crunch on Saturday where Turner had two sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. Turner is currently ranked seventh in the league for sacks, 10th for interceptions, 12th for tackles among defensive backs and 25th for tackles among all positions.

Turner garnered 33 percent of the fan vote to overcome Houma Conqueror quarterback Omar Haugbrook who had 30 percent of the vote. Turfcats quarterback Deron Ellis came in third in this week's voting with 19 percent followed by Houma's Sebroyo Daniels, and Louisiana's Marcus Wilridge and Brandon Thomas.

Each SIFL game has four MVPs for offensive, defensive, line and special teams. Two MVPs from each game are then selected to be on the Player Of The Week ballot. Fans determine which player deserves the award by voting at the league website at www.southernifl.com. A Turfcat has won the award all five weeks that one has been on the Player Of The Week ballot.

Up next for the Turfcats (5-1) is their much anticipated rematch against the Louisiana Swashbucklers (6-1). Kickoff is Monday at 6:30 on the Swashbuckler's home turf at the Lake Charles Civic Center in Lake Charles, La.
