Turfcats Still in 2nd With a Loss to the Swashbucklers, 60-43

LAKE CHARLES, La - The series is now tied 1-1 as the Austin Turfcats (5-2) fell to the Louisiana Swashbucklers (7-1) 60-43 Monday night. The Turfcats got on the board first and led by as many as 16 points in the first half but the Swashbucklers took control of the lead for good just before halftime.

The first half will go down in the record books as the highest scoring half in the Southern Indoor Football League's short history. In the first half Darren Brown had three field goals, Darrick Wallace returned a missed field goal for a score and Deron Ellis had one rushing touchdown and two passing, both to Robert Quiroga. The Swashbucklers returned both a kick off and Ellis interception for points while also scoring two touchdowns passing, one rushing, and a field goal.

The Turfcats held the lead the whole first half until late in the second quarter when the Swashbucklers took control with a Freddie Harrison to Marcus Wilridge touchdown pass. The Turfcats then regained the lead with a Brown field goal but the Swashbucklers permanently took over again when Tommy Hebert kicked a field goal with one second left. The half ended with the Swashbucklers up by one, 37-36.

The Swashbucklers started the second half with a score on the first play of their first possession with another Harrison to Wilridge touchdown. Herbet added a field goal on the Swashbucklers next possession. The Turfcats only score of the second half came next when Ellis found Reggie Miller in the end zone. Hebert had two more field goals and Raymond Harris had a touchdown reception making the final score 60-43 in the Swashbucklers' favor.

Ellis finished the night with 157 yards passing including three touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, and two interceptions. Quiroga had four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

The Turfcats take on the Texas Pirates at home on Saturday. Kick off is at 6:30 p.m. at Adfirmative.com Field at the Travis County Expo Center in Austin Texas. The Turfcats won the first meeting with the Pirates 38-20.
