AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Turfcats announced today that they have been officially accepted into the Indoor Football League (IFL) for the 2010 season, following a vote of the IFL board of directors.
"We are excited to be a part of the IFL," remarked Turfcats Head Coach Chris Duliban. "The IFL is full of top-caliber teams and top-caliber talent, and we look forward to building rivalries across the great state of Texas in the Lonestar Division."
The IFL's Lonestar Division is made up of teams from Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Christi, San Angelo, El Paso, and Odessa, as well as the Turfcats. The team will play 14 regular season games in 2010, with the schedule to be announced in mid-to-late November.
"We are thrilled to be joined by the Turfcats who have done such a professional job with their team since inception", stated IFL commissioner Tommy Benizio, "This is a very exciting addition and we expect them to be great contributors to our Lonestar Division."
The Turfcats recently completed their inaugural season as a member of the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL), posting a 10-3 record for the 2009 season and a trip to the league championship.
