July 1, 2009 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL)
Austin Turfcats News Release
AUSTIN, Texas - With the Austin Turfcats' (7-2) 50-40 Monday night win over the Acadiana Mudbugs (5-4), the Turfcats have clinched second place in the Southern Indoor Football League and are scheduled to host a first round playoff game.
The playoff game will be held at adfirmative.com Field at the Travis County Expo Center on July 18. The third place team will travel to Austin for the game while the Louisiana Swashbucklers (9-1) will host the fourth place team. Tickets for the game will go on sale July 13 with prices still to be determined but promised to be reasonable.
This announcement comes after the Turfcats defeated the Mudbugs in the most exciting game in SIFL history. The game had seven lead changes and an amazing fourth quarter play where Turfcat Deron Ellis blocked a kickoff that resulted in a double lateral from Metrick McHenry to Michael Catchings to Darrick Wallace, who ran it in for the score. The Mudbugs took the lead once more but with a strong Turfcats finish, Keith Clay rushed for a touchdown and Gary Cooper threw a 47-yard pass to Robert Quiroga ending the game with a final score of 50-40 for the Turfcats.
The Turfcats have two games remaining before the end of the season and their home playoff game. They travel to College Station to play the Texas Hurricanes in back-to-back games at the Arctic Wolf Ice Center on July 7 and July 11. Tickets will be available game day at the ticket booth. Live updates will be available at Turfcats.com and Twitter.com/austinturfcats.
