Houma Owner To Be Fined For Misleading Media

July 1, 2009 - Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) News Release

LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 1, 2009) -- The Southern Indoor Football League announced today, July 1, 2009, that it will fine Houma Conquerors owner Franklin Thomas an undisclosed amount and issued an official reprimand for misleading the media regarding the Conquerors' game with the Louisiana Bayou Bulls.

Thomas told Houma Today that he had ``argued'' with league officials to count Houma's 66-0 victory in the standings. The Bayou Bulls were a replacement for the North Texas Crunch, the SIFL's travel team for the 2009 season, who could not make the trip due to transportation issues.

``The game was always scheduled to count in the standings, as were the statistics and that was explained in the recap posted on www.southernifl.com early Sunday morning,'' said SIFL Director of Communications Dan Ryan. ``The game will not affect playoff seedings. We have never deviated from this plan. We even reviewed this in our weekly conference call Tuesday (June 30) afternoon, a call that Franklin Thomas did not participate in.

``I would really appreciate it if team owners would contact the league office before discussing league operations in a public forum,'' Ryan continued. ``Franklin hasn't returned any of my calls, or anyone else in the league for that matter. Tell him we said hello.

``We don't sweep problems under the rug, rather we deal with them in a professional manner, and I'm extremely displeased that media who are covering our teams and league have been misled,'' Ryan concluded. ``I regret this incident has occurred and also extend my appreciation for the excellent coverage we've received in that market.''
