Tulsa Talons News Release
TULSA, Okla. â The Tulsa Talons and John 3:16 Mission teamed up Sunday night to feed those who are hungry in downtown Tulsa. The John 3:16 Mission provides a church service, breakfast and dinner for an average of 120 people every day. Talons players Tony Agee, BJ Barre, Antonio Dingle, Zac Jones, Jermaine Thaxton and front office staff members were all there for the Thanksgiving-themed dinner.
Anyone who would like to come and eat at the Mission first hears a message in the chapel. Next, the group is divided between two dining rooms and food is served. Because it is the week of Thanksgiving, the groups are actually served. During a normal week, the guests grab a tray and go through the line, cafeteria-style.
The Mission also provides beds for those without a place to sleep. The beds are allocated through a lottery: when the numbers are called, the lucky ticket-holders receive a bed for the night and breakfast the next morning. Now that the cold weather has come in, the beds are more greatly desired.
John 3:16 Mission also rewards those who are in search of work. If someone is not present during the bed lottery because a job interview interferes or they have recently been given work, they are provided with a reserved bed. Guests may also receive bus tokens from John 3:16 Mission. The Mission is run by its students who spend an average of one year at the Mission to learn about the Word of God and how to serve those in need.
The Talons greatly enjoyed the experience of helping the community by feeding the hungry people in Tulsa. The players were invited back, after signing a few autographs and shaking a few hands. The Talons plan to return to the John 3:16 Mission in the near future.
