TULSA, Okla. (April 14, 2010) - A busy offseason continued for the Tulsa Shock today as it traded 6-2 forward Crystal Kelly to the San Antonio Silver Stars for 5-10 guard Shanna Crossley.
Crossley, a University of Tennessee graduate, appeared in 19 games last year for the Silver Stars, averaging five points a game in just less than 10 minutes of action. The fourth year pro was a three-point specialist in San Antonio, shooting a blistering 40.2 percent from beyond the arc for her career and an even more impressive 44.4 percent in the 2009 regular season and 50 percent in three playoff games.
"We are excited about having Shanna Crossley join the Tulsa Shock," General Manager and Head Coach Nolan Richardson said. "She is one of the best three-point shooters in the WNBA. In addition, having played for head coach Pat Summit at Tennessee, she knows what it takes to win."
Crossley ranked fifth in the league last year in three-point percentage and joins the Shock's Alexis Hornbuckle who shot 39.1 percent from the three-point territory last year (ranked 20th in the league), to form a dynamic outside shooting threat for the Shock.
Crossley had a historic career at Tennessee where she ranks first in single-season free throw percentage (.957 in 2003-04), first in career free throw percentage (.916), first in single-season three-point field goals made (103 in 2005-06), first in career three-point field goals made (266), first in career three-point field goal percentage (.425), second in career games played (144) and ninth on the all-time scoring list with 1,706 career point. She also holds the NCAA single-season (.957 in 2003-04) and career (.916) free throw records.
In Kelly, the Shock gives up a forward who appeared in 11 regular season games in Detroit last year, averaging less than three points a game in about eight minutes of playing time off the bench.
The trade is the Shock's second in less than a week. Prior to the 2010 WNBA Draft, it traded the seventh overall pick in 2010 and its second round pick in 2011 to the Connecticut Sun for Chante Black and Amber Holt. The Shock then selected Oklahoma's Amanda Thompson in the second round (19th overall) and Vivian Frieson in the third round (31st overall) in the 2010 WNBA Draft.
