TULSA, Okla. (April 22, 2010) - Having just arrived in town, Tulsa Shock players Olayinka Sanni and Scholanda Robinson have already put their jerseys to the side in favor of supporting the community by participating in the March for Babies Walk at Oral Roberts University on Saturday, April 24.

Registration for the March for Babies will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will kick-off at 10 a.m.

Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many lifelong disabilities. March of Dimes helps fight prematurity by taking steps in March for Babies.  March for Babies supports research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives. Funds from the walk are used to bring comfort and information to families whose baby was born too soon, or sick.

"I've always wanted to work with and for children," Sanni said. "One day when I retire from basketball, I want to own my own day care. I always want to support events for kids because kids are the most important thing in our community."

March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

"We are honored to be a partner with the Tulsa Shock," said Rebecca Darrow, Division Director of the Eastern Oklahoma March of Dimes. "It's a perfect fit for young women playing basketball to support a cause that focuses on the health of women in their same demographic."
