Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, Okla. - Thunderbirds Dijon Thompson and Joe Shipp poured in a game high 28 points as the Albuquerque T-birds defeated the host Tulsa 66ers 101-120 on Saturday night at Expo Square Pavilion.
Going to the locker room at halftime leading 55-53, Tulsa 66ers head coach Joey Meyer really thought they were going to win the game.
"I thought we had a chance tonight. Our guys played together and hard in the first half, but after the 3-pointer at the end of the third, that's where our team fell apart," said Meyer.
T-bird guard Joe Shipp took what looked to have been a bad pass gone good at the buzzer for the end of the third. The shot sank and Tulsa never took the lead again. The second half meltdown led to Tulsa dropping the game by 20 points with 1:57 left in the fourth.
"Albuquerque's 3-pointers hurt us in the second half," said Meyer. "They had 12 threes. They played hard defense and we didn't in the fourth. The outcome is obvious."
Albuquerque guard Cedric Bozeman grabbed the only double-double of the night scoring 15 points and dishing out 13 assists. In addition to Thompson and Shipp's 28 points each, Brandon Robinson (16), Tony Bland (17) and Andreas Glyniadakis (11) also scored in the double-digits.
Tulsa guard Will Conroy dished out the game high 15 assists, adding in eight points. Alan Anderson scored the team high 25 points, while Jean Felix and John Edwards both chipped in for 12 points each.
Tulsa shot just 49 percent from the field goal compared to Albuquerque's 59 percent. The T-birds shot 50 percent from behind the arch while Tulsa shot 35 percent. The 66ers were 22-of-25 at the charity stripe to Albuquerque's 18-of-24.
After a disappointing third loss in a row at home, the 66ers will tour the West Coast again taking on the Anaheim Arsenal on Tuesday and the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Thursday.
