Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, Okla., December 10, 2005 - Roanoke Dazzle guard, Anthony Grundy, sizzled Saturday night scoring a game-high 36 points and adding nine rebounds as Roanoke ended Tulsa's three-game winning streak with a 107-102 victory at Expo Square Pavilion.
Tulsa forward, Ersan Ilyasova, on assignment from the Milwaukee Bucks, was able to keep Tulsa nip-and-tuck with Roanoke all the way through the first half as the two teams headed to the locker room tied 43-43.
Ilyasova led the 66ers with 19 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds.
The game remained tight until late in the third when the 66ers went on a 15-8 run to close the quarter. Desmon Farmer, who scored 17 points on the evening, hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the 66ers a 78-68 lead going into the final quarter.
Tulsa would push their lead to the biggest of the night with a driving layup by guard Will Conroy, making the score 82-70 with 11:17 remaining in the game.
The Dazzle fought their way back into the game with a 16-4 run tying the game at 86 on a jump shot by Grundy midway through the fourth. Despite the best efforts of Tulsa center Tony Kitchings, who had 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, the 66ers could not overcome Roanoke's free throw shooting. The Dazzle connected on 30-of-39 free-throws in the contest compared to 66ers 10-of-13 shooting from the charity stripe.
"I have never coached a team that could pull out a win when they shot 13 free throws and the other team shot 39," said Tulsa head coach Joey Meyer. "Looking at these numbers I'm shocked we kept things so close. We have to keep people off the line."
The 66ers take on the Albuquerque Thunderbirds for the sixth time on Friday, December 16 at Albuquerque with a 7 p.m. tipoff.
