Tulsa claims victory over Toros

TULSA, OK - Jason Fontenet sank a seven-foot jumper five minutes into the first quarter, and the 66ers started tonight's game the same way they ended the last match up with the Toros: by winning. Tulsa defeated the Austin Toros 117-105 Saturday night at Expo Square Pavilion.

The 66ers started out sizzling as they got lots of easy points penetrating to the basket. Their team of young guns also outscored Austin's 30-21, carrying them to a 68-47 at halftime. Meanwhile, Austin struggled, hitting only 33% in the first quarter.

After three quarters, the Toros trailed 90-78 and attempted to make a run at the end of the game. But Tulsa responded and closed it out.

Tulsa's "fabulous five" all finished in double figures. Adam Harrington paced the way finishing with 25 points, and Milwaukee Bucks assignee David Noel scored 23. The last three 66ers notched double-doubles. Mike Hall with 19 points and 11 rebounds, Nick Fazekas chipped in 18 points and 14 rebounds, and Jason Fontenet finished with 16 points and a game high 16 assists.

Keith Langford offered a pleasant sight for Austin fans scoring 36 points and nine rebounds. Ian Mahinmi was 6-for-10 with 18 points. Marcus Williams came off the bench to hit 6-of-12 chipping in 17 points. Cheyne Gadson dished out 14 points and Justin Reed finished with 12 points.

Tonight's win against Austin makes the third time the 66ers have defeated the Toros on home court. Despite a few bumps in the road this season, the 66ers are quietly showing everyone they are a force to be reckoned with.

Tulsa faces Albuquerque on Friday, February 8, 2008. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and fans can listen to 1300am KAKC for all the 66ers action.
