Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - United Soccer Leagues today announced that the Portland Timbers match at Edmonton that was scheduled for Tuesday, July 20, has been postponed indefinitely after the USL was informed on Monday that ownership of the A-League's Aviators franchise has ceased operations effective immediately.
The Timbers were scheduled to depart from Portland early Monday afternoon, and it was anticipated that Tuesday's match would be played as scheduled regardless of the current situation. But USL officials notified the Timbers on Monday morning that the game would be postponed while, according to a statement, it "reviews its options regarding the remaining schedule" for the Edmonton franchise.
"We were fully anticipating traveling to Edmonton today for Tuesday's match, but the league informed us on Monday that it felt it would be best to postpone the match given the current state of flux with the Edmonton franchise," said Jim Taylor, general manager of the Timbers.
No announcement has been made regarding a makeup date for the game.
The Timbers return to action on Saturday, July 24, when they play host to the Seattle Sounders at PGE Park at 7 p.m.
