Tucson and Fresno Split Doubleheader Sunday

Conor Gillaspie's three hits and three RBIs, along with starting pitcher Andrew Kown's four-hit shutout, helped the Fresno Grizzlies to a 5-0 victory over the Tucson Padres in Game One on Sunday at Chukchansi Park.

Gillaspie opened the scoring with a two-run home run over the right field wall in the first inning. The home run was his 14th of the year, tying his career high. The Grizzlies added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs. Francisco Peguero and Nick Noonan both had RBIs in the inning. Gillaspie increased Fresno's lead to 5-0 with a sacrifice fly to center field to score Ryan Lollis in the sixth.

Tucson's Eddie Kunz started his first start game since being transferred from Double-A, throwing a complete game, allowing 11 hits and five runs. The loss was the seventh time the Padres have been shut out this season.

Game 2 - Sunday

Four Tucson Padres pitchers combined to throw a 5-0 shutout over the Fresno Grizzlies in the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday. The Padres are now 6-4 in doubleheaders this season.

Tucson jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Jedd Gyorko smashed a two-run home run to left. Two more runs came across the plate for the Padres in the fourth inning when Daniel Robertson hit a single that bounced over the head of Fresno first baseman Brett Pill into right field. Vince Belnome's pinch-hit triple in the sixth inning scored Sawyer Carroll to give Tucson a 5-0 advantage. Relief pitcher Jason Ray completed the Padres' shutout by closing out the seventh inning.

Jorge Reyes earned his tenth win of the year throwing a scoreless fifth inning. Josh Spence started the contest going four innings, yielding two hits and a walk. Brain Burres suffered the loss for Fresno allowing five hits and two runs in three innings of work.
