Tryouts Overwhelming Success
December 7, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
Odessa, Texas. The recent Odessa Roughnecks tryouts turned out to be an exciting event for the Permian Basin as well as the Roughnecks coaching staff. Almost fifty hopeful athletes turned out to compete for the limited number of roster spots on the 2005 team. "We were so impressed with the caliber of player that turned out, there was a lot of determined and skilled athletes that put out their best effort," said Head Coach Chris Williams. Several local players were signed with the Roughnecks and although this doesn't guarantee them a spot on the final roster, this gets them the chance to make it to the final cut. Several players from the surrounding area made a worthwhile trip to be signed as a Roughneck coming from as far away as Houston. The following were our "Hometown Heros" signed at this past Saturday's tryout:
Doug Andrade, 5' 9" and 170lbs, is a DB from Wichita Falls who played for Midwestern State.
Dean McDaniel, 6' 0" and 160 lbs, is a WR from Longview who played semi-professional football and ran track at Texas A and M.
Danny Bishop, 5' 11" and 230lbs, is a FB/LB from Odessa who played for Southwest Baptist University.
Frenchy McCrea, 5; 11" and 215lbs, is a RB/WR from Odessa who played for Angelo State University.
Michael Morrow, 6'2" and 185lbs, is a WR/DB who played for Texas A and M.
Maurice Mishaw, 5'10" and 208lbs, is a RB/WR who played for Navarro.
Scott Kello, 6' 3" and 200lbs, is a QB from Andrews who played at Sul Ross State.
Player announcements are likely to begin in the coming weeks. The team's season ticket base continues to grow rapidly and interested fans and businesses are encouraged to contact the Roughnecks as soon as possible to ensure the best seats at (432) 332-PASS (7277).
