Ottawa Renegades News Release

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Renegades Football Club will be holding tryouts for the 2005 Dance Team on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at the downtown Marriott Hotel (100 Kent Street, corner of Queen St.). The event, which is open to enthusiastic young women aged 19-35, will begin at 6 p.m.

"We are looking for individuals that possess dance skills, however being a member of this team requires much more than dance ability. We want mature, responsible, intelligent young women who have strong communication skills and are interested in becoming an integral part of the Ottawa community," said Natalie O'Byrne, Choreographer of the 2005 Ottawa Renegades Dance Team. "Performing for thousands of people, attending city-wide promotional events, being part of an awesome team of young women, and having tons of fun are all part of being our squad. If this interests you, we want you to try out for the Ottawa Renegades dance team."

To be part of the Renegades dance team, candidates must offer strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, an outgoing personality and be a team player with a commitment to the community. The women must be reliable, be physically fit, have a strong dance background in the realm of jazz, ballet and/or hip hop and be available Monday and Wednesday evenings from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for mandatory practices.

Registration begins promptly at 6 p.m. on April 6. Applications will not be accepted after 6:45 p.m. Prospective dances are also asked to being a recent photograph and dance resume.

Auditions will begin at 7:00 pm. Dancers are asked to be dressed in appropriate attire (aerobic top, dance pants/capris/shorts, jazz oxfords/dance sneakers). A short dance routine will be taught and then required to perform. Following a short practice session, the routine will be performed in small groups for a panel of judges. All successful dancers will then be asked to participate in second audition (date and location to be determined). As this is a two-part audition all applicants need to be available on both dates.

"We want experienced dancers who possess a positive attitude and are excited at the prospect of becoming an ambassador for Ottawa's football team," added O'Byrne.
