Tropics Hope for First Back-To-Back Wins When St. Louis Visits for Sunday Matinee
March 8, 2019 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Florida Tropics SC News Release
LAKELAND - The Florida Tropics SC will host the first of two straight Sunday matinee games at the RP Funding Center when they host the St. Louis Ambush in a 3:05 Eastern Daylight Time start.
The Ambush are right in the thick of the South Central playoff race, while the Tropics will look to win their second straight in an attempt to keep their post-season hopes alive. Coming into this weekend, St. Louis is 9-11, in third place and two games back of the 9-7 Kansas City Comets. Florida, 5-12, is 4.5 games back of KC, but still has two home games against the Comets later this month. Meanwhile, St. Louis will look to start a winning streak after dropping a pair at the Family Arena last weekend, 6-2 to Milwaukee and 8-5 against resurgent Harrisburg.
Florida comes in after winning its first road game of the season last Saturday against the Orlando SeaWolves, 7-5. In that game, Tropics forward Andrew Braitwaite and SeaWolves defender Derek Huffman received simultaneous blue cards for unsportsmanlike conduct, , and as a result of the play, both were suspended by the Major Arena Soccer League for two games.
Braitwaite has 10 goals in eight games since joining Florida in a trade in mid January. The Tropics will also continue to be without leading goal scorer Guilherme and its top two defenders, Lucas Monterlares and Lucas Teixeira who are injured.
Florida's leading active scorer coming into the game is Victor Parreiras who has 21 points in 14 games played to date (12 goals, nine assists). Zach Reget is the Ambush's leading scorer - and top rookie goal scorer in the MASL - with 19 goals and 8 assists for a team-high 27 points in 20 games.
Florida has not won consecutive games all season.
After Sunday, Florida will have a return engagement in Orlando against the SeaWolves on Friday, March 15, before returning to the RP Funding Center on Sunday, March 17, to host Kansas City in another 3:05 EDT kick off.
All Tropics games are broadcast live at www.masl.tv. For more information, and for tickets, call the Tropics office at 863-240-0101 or visit www.fltropics.com.
