Trenton Devils News Release
Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Devils have signed forward Chase Watson. The announcement was made by Albany and Trenton General Manager Chris Lamoriello.
Watson, 28, joins the Devils organization in his fourth year of professional hockey, having most recently appeared with the CHL's Arizona Sundogs where the Media, PA native had a goal and an assist in four games played earlier this season. In 2009-10, Watson played six games for Johnstown (ECHL), 16 games for Bloomington (IHL), and 26 games for Reading (ECHL) for whom he posted 7 points and 14 penalty minutes. Prior to a five-game stay in Wheeling (ECHL) in 2008-09, the 6-0, 195-lb. forward began his professional career in Augusta (ECHL) where he posted a career-high 30 points (14g, 16a) in 71 games for the Lynx as a rookie in 2007-08.
Playing four years at Providence College (Hockey East), Watson totaled 77 points in 134 games for the Friars, including a team-best 27 assists as a junior. Watson played four seasons of junior hockey with Cedar Rapids and Rochester in the USHL from 1999 to 2003, and had his best season in 2002-03 with the Rough Riders, recording 52 points (19g, 33a) in 58 games.
Watson, born October 23, 1982, is the son of Jim Watson, and the nephew of Joe Watson, both of whom had lengthy careers in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers. Both Jim and Joe were members of the 1973-74 and 1974-75 Flyers Stanley Cup Championship teams. Chase has a brother, 25-year-old Brett, who played collegiately at UMASS-Amherst (Hockey East) and professionally with Wheeling (ECHL) earlier this season.
Trenton visits the Toledo Walleye in Wednesday and the Wheeling Nailers Thursday before returning home Saturday to face the Reading Royals at Sun National Bank Center at 7:00 p.m.
