Portland Lumberjax News Release
PORTLAND, January 2, 2008 - It's almost game time. All that separates the Portland LumberJax and the start of the 2008 National Lacrosse League is one final weekend of training camp. The Jax resume action after a three week break this Saturday, January 5, when the team practices from 11 a.m.-12:40 p.m. and 8:05-9:45 p.m. at the Tualatin Indoor Soccer Center.
This is the final opportunity for players to shake out any rust before the home opener on January 12 against the New York Titans at 7:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden Arena. Head Coach/General Manager Derek Keenan expects a very crisp practice session with his players.
"We expect the players to be game ready in terms of fitness", said Keenan. "By the end of the weekend we also expect them to be game ready in terms of skill and precision."
To end Training Camp, the Jax will hold a 40-minute inter-squad scrimmage during the evening practice that will give the Jax a feel for what's to come when the team hosts the Titans.
"New York is an extremely fast and athletic team, so we are going to have to match that athleticism with intensity and intelligent play," said Keenan. "I expect the home opener to be played at a very high tempo."
