Sacramento Capitals News Release

Sacramento, CA (July 5, 2013) - The defending Western Conference Champion Sacramento Capitals of Mylan World TeamTennis announced today that current player, Taylor Townsend is in the junior Finals at Wimbledon this weekend. Caps GM Kolleen McNamee stated, "We're so thrilled for Taylor. She's playing excellent tennis right now and we are rooting her on here from Sacramento." Townsend will be forced to miss the first match of the season this Sunday against the Texas Wild. "We are fortunate to be able to bring in Nicole Gibbs, the reigning NCAA champion for Sunday's match," said McNamee.

Nicole Gibbs has won two singles and one doubles title on the ITF tour in her career. On June 24, 2013, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 172. Gibbs graduated in 2010 from Crossroads School in Santa Monica, California, and currently attends Stanford University. Gibbs was named 2012 recipient of the Honda Sports Award for tennis. Her selection by the Collegiate Women Sports Awards program recognized Gibbs as the country's top junior female player in her sport.

A 2012 All-American in both singles and doubles, Gibbs pulled off a historic sweep of the year's NCAA singles and doubles titles. Gibbs joined Stanford's Linda Gates (1985) and UCLA's Keri Phebus (1995) as only the third player in NCAA history to capture both NCAA titles in the same season.

The Capitals expect Townsend to be in town for the match on Monday, July 8 against the Philadelphia Freedoms. However, if her travel schedule does not allow it, Gibbs will fill in for that match as well. Townsend will play the remainder of the season with Sacramento.
