Newark Bears News Release

Newark, NJ, July 8- The Atlantic League announced today that Newark Bears catcher Jason Torres and pitcher Damon Ponce Deleon have been added to the South Division team for the 2003 Atlantic League All Star Game, which will be played on Wednesday, July 9 at Holman Stadium in Nashua, NH.

Torres was added due to Atlantic City's release of Emison Soto, originally slated as the starting catcher for the all star game.

Ponce Deleon replaces Bears teammate Matt Wagner, who declined his invitation due to personal reasons. Newark's outfielder Michael Coleman followed suit. He was selected to start in the role of Designated Hitter.

Jason Torres is currently batting .244 with a homerun and 10 RBIs. Ponce Deleon is 0-3 with a 5.08 ERA, 4th in the league with 8 saves.

Damon Ponce Deleon and Jason Torres will join Bears teammates Wil Quintana, Rickey Henderson, and Danny Clyburn in participating in the all star game.
