Toros Top Wizards at 2012 NBA D-League Showcase

Published on January 12, 2012 under NBA G League (G League) News Release

RENO, NEV., Jan. 12, 2012 - Justin Dentmon is the picture that comes with the Austin Toros wallet, but there are plenty of other useful compartments.

These were on display Thursday, as the Toros (14-3) saw six players score in double figures, led by 27 points from Dentmon, in a 108-94 win over the Dakota Wizards on the final day of the 2012 NBA D-League Showcase.

Dentmon, the NBA D-League's third-leading scorer (23.4 ppg), shot 8-for-14 from the field and 11-for-12 from the free throw line as the Toros, who trailed 56-55 at the half, took control the rest of the way.

Not drafted in 2009 out of Washington, Dentmon is one of many small scoring guards in the NBA D-League trying to convince NBA teams he can play the point. The jury is probably still out, though Dentmon is showing more patience running Austin's offensive sets.

Terrance Woodbury added 21 points for the Toros, while Lance Thomas and Eric Dawson added 16 points each. Thomas, undrafted in 2010 following a non-descript four-year career at Duke, has improved his stock, as evidenced by a recent call-up to the New Orleans Hornets. Thomas is a bit of a tweener in terms of position, but not in terms of effort. It's there on a regular basis, and he's happy to do the dirty work.

Dawson, who added 10 rebounds, provides beef inside, while Woodbury, who shot 3-for-3 from the three-point range, can stretch defenses.

Edwin Ubiles, who was a late training camp cut of the Golden State Warriors, led Dakota (7-9) with 22 points. After going undrafted in 2010 out of Siena, Ubiles sat out the 2010-11 season dealing with a stress fracture in is tibia. An aggressive and rangy wing with solid scoring instincts and a nice overall feel for the game, Ubiles had a strong showing this week.

Tommy Smith had 14 points and seven rebounds for Dakota. Mike Anderson added 13 points.
