
Toros Open Up With A Win

TUCSON, AZ - The Tucson Toros are back and they opened up the 2009 season with an 8-6 win over the Chico Outlaws, at Hi Corbett Field Thursday night. The crowd of 4883 strong, left with smiles on their faces as the hometown team gave them thrill after thrill.
The nights festivities opened up with a welcome back by Toros owner Jay Zucker as he reintroduced the Toros to Tucson. The pregame festivities included a complete team introduction and a double-first-pitch as GBL Commissioner Kevin Outcalt and the Famous San Diego Chicken threw out the ceremonial first pitches.
Lorenzo Barcelo, (1-0) got the start for the Toros where went 6 2/3 innings deep to earn the win. In his first start of the season, the veteran righty gave up one run, unearned, on six hits and he fanned five Outlaw hitters.
The Toros used five pitchers in the game. Tucsonan,Tom Wilhelmsen, earned the save for the Toros as he pitched one inning, where he gave up two hits and struck out one batter.
Offensively the Toros got off to a great start in 2009 as they scored eight runs on ten hits in their opening game. Lino Garcia led the hit parade as he went 3-4 with three doubles and three RBI.
Skip Adams also had a multi hit effort as he went 2-3, hit a double, walked and scored a pair of runs.
Andre Marshall hit the first homerun of the new Toros era when he hit a two-run shot in the seventh. Marshall finished the day 1-4, with two runs scored and two RBI.
The two teams will be back at Hi Corbett tomorrow for game two of the four-game set. First pitch on Fireworks Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
