Toros Lose Battle for the Border

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Toros dropped game one, of a three game set, against the Edmonton Capitals, 6-2, Monday night at Hi Corbett Field. The loss drops the Toros back to even on the season at 4-4 and the Caps move one game above .500 at 6-5.

Tucson native Jason Jacome got his first start of the 2009 campaign where he picked up the loss. Jacome pitched through four innings where he gave up six runs, five earned, on six hits. In his debut with the Toros, the left handed pitcher also fanned six Capital batters.

Fellow Tucsonan, Matt McCune, pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief before giving way to Mark Rosen who closed out the top of the ninth. McCune only surrendered two hits and fanned three Capitals, out of the pen.

The Toros only managed five hits in the loss. Second baseman Skip Adams got one of the hits, extending his hitting streak to eight games as he went 1-4 at the dish.

Curt Miaso was the only Toro with a multi-hit effort as he went 2-4, with a pair of singles.
