Toros Hold off BayHawks' Late Rally to Secure Victory

RENO, NEV., Jan. 6, 2014 - The Austin Toros were able to hold on and defeat the Erie BayHawks by a score of 114-103 at the NBA D-League Showcase presented by Samsung Galaxy. Courtney Fells finished with 20 points, 15 of which came in the fourth quarter to hold off a late rally by Erie.

San Antonio Spurs' assignees, Nando De Colo and Malcolm Thomas led the way for Austin. De Colo had a team-high 23 points on 9-for-21 shooting, to go along with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Thomas recorded a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds. He was 9-of-13 from the floor and registered six assists. Eric Dawson came off the bench to add 19 points and five rebounds for the Toros.

Justin Brownlee helped Erie get off to a good start, scoring the first five points and sparking the BayHawks to an early 8-0 lead. Brownlee turned in a game-high 35 points on 12-of-20 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds.

De Colo would help Austin answer back with seven first-quarter points as they took a 24-21 lead in the opening stanza. The Toros would pad their lead in the second quarter as they took a 53-45 lead into the locker room.

Austin extended their lead with an 11-0 run to start the second half and opened up a 64-47 lead with 8:43 to play in the third quarter. The 17 point lead would be their largest of the game as Erie would climb back into the game early in the fourth quarter.

C.J. Leslie hit a pull-up jumper that tied the game at 91 with six minutes to play but that was as close as the BayHawks would get. Austin quickly regained the lead compliments of Fells. Fells scored 13 points in the final 3:50, including back-to-back 3-pointers to seal the win for Austin.

Austin will return to action tomorrow to take on the Maine Red Claws at 3:30 P.M. and the Erie BayHawks will open up action on Wednesday versus the Idaho Stampede at 10 A.M.
