Toros Head East for First Ever Meeting with Charleston Battery

EDINBURG, Texas - Rio Grande Valley FC (11-12-6, 39 pts) make the quick trip east to Charleston Battery (6-18-6, 24 pts) on September 23 to face a club who are numerically out of contention in the playoff race. Rio Grande hope to impose their game on Friday night as they continue their trek in the Western conference playoff picture.
The action will be live nationally on ESPN+ starting at 6:00 pm CST. This is the first meeting between the sides.

Rio Grande proved themselves once more against a higher ranked opponent at H-E-B Park as they hosted Colorado Springs Switchbacks on September 17. The Switchbacks entered the matchup known as one of the hottest offensive sides in the USL Championship; they were completely out of their element as the Toros shut down lanes and limited the Colorado side to just two shots on target, none of which truly tested Tyler Deric who picked up his sixth clean sheet.
A well-oiled offensive unit lately, RGV FC looks to take care of business out East against a side who has given up 63 goals on the year. If the defense can play its game and allows for good wing distribution, Ricky Ruiz and Christian Pinzon may make it a long night for the Battery.
Jonas Fjeldberg looks to grow his scoring lead for the Toros (6) while Pinzon looks to climb back after snapping his five game scoring streak this past week.
