Toros Bats Go Cold Along With The Weather In 6-0 Shutout

May 24, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release

The Tucson Toros were shutout by the Calgary Vipers 6-0 Sunday, managing just four baserunners on a night when the temperatures dropped precipitously down into the upper 50's as the game progressed.

Vipers starter Erik Dessau was both effective and efficient against the Toros offense, allowing 3 hits and a hit batsman without walking a batter. He needed just 81 pitches in his eight shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. Calgary reliever Daniel Buller finished the game with a scoreless ninth. The duo faced just two batters over the minimum after inducing three double play balls.

Toros First Baseman Cristobal Santana accounted for half of the team's hits, with a pair of identical hard hit groundball singles up the middle in the 5th and 8th. Rightfielder Victor Ferrante singled in the 2nd and Centerfielder Josh Womack singled in the 9th, but that was all of the offense for the night for Tucson.

Righthander Jason Hanna allowed 4 runs in 5 innings of work to take his first loss of the season. Local product Cody Walden made his Toros debut after signing earlier in the day. The southpaw allowed just 1 earned run (2 total) in 3 innings pitched.

The Toros and Vipers will play the middle game of the three game series on Monday with a 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The game can be heard live on COOL 1450 AM or video streaming over the internet at www.tucsontoros.com.
