Torero Pair Lead Dans to Second Straight Win

(DANVILLE, IL) -Starting the second half of the Prospect League 2-0, the Danville Dans again leaned on college teammates - this time from San Diego - to lead them to a 9-2 win against the Springfield Sliders July 4 on the road at Robin Roberts Field.

The hitting side of the box score was led by Toreros freshmen Andrew Daniel, who went 3-5. He had an RBI single in the 3rd, had a double and scored on an error in the 5th, and capped of the scoring with his third home run in the 9th.

On the season, the San Diego native - named All-American Freshman this past season by Louisville Slugger and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association - is hitting .306 in 16 games with 10 RBIs, three home runs and 13 runs scored. Daniel has walked 14 times with 20 strikeouts. For the Toreros in 2012, he hit .339, scoring 37 runs with 45 RBIs.

The Dans scored their nine runs on 12 hits - five for extra bases - with six strike outs and five walks.

Danville starter Max Homick brought his record to 2-2 with the win, pitching seven innings. The freshman allowed two runs on five hits, with six walks and three strike outs. In his four starts for the Dans, Homick has a 4.43 ERA, giving up 11 earned runs while striking out and walking 12 each. He was 1-0 in his 11 appearances - including five starts - during the 2012 Torero season.

The Dans play a two-game series in Terre Haute before returning to Danville Stadium Saturday, July 7 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the team.
