
'Topes down Redbirds 5-1

The Albuquerque Isotopes won their first Spring Training contest of the year, downing the Memphis Redbirds 5-1 at Jupiter, Florida.
Starting right-handed pitcher Sergio Mitre cruised through three shutout innings while catcher Jonathan Aceves continued his hot spring hitting with two hits and two RBI. Outfielder Mike Colangelo also chipped in two hits in the winning cause.
The Isotopes will take on the Redbirds again tomorrow in Jupiter.
Albuquerque's pitching staff was also bolstered with the addition of the left-hander Renyel Pinto, who was optioned from the Marlins. Pinto came to the organization with Mitre and pitcher Ricky Nolasco from the Cubs in exchange for outfielder Juan Pierre.
Right-hander Logan Kensing, who split time the last two years between Double-A Carolina and Florida, also joined the âTopes with right-handers Buddy Carlyle, Eddie Gaillard, infielder Mickey Lopez, who played at Fresno last year, and infielder Scott Seabol, who played the last three years with Memphis.
