Angels' 1st and 9th Round Picks Join Dust Devils

Zach Neto:

Neto, a Miami, Florida native, joins the Dust Devils following his selection by their parent club, the Los Angeles Angels, with the 13th overall pick in the 1st round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft. Neto's stock as a prospect rose after two great seasons both in the field and at the plate at Campbell University in Bules Creek, North Carolina. Neto was a two-way player for the Fighting Camels, pitching in three seasons (2020-2022), playing all around the infield in 2021 and starring at shortstop in 2022. Neto hit over .400 in both 2021 and 2022, with a combined 27 HRs, 108 RBI and 1.251 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage). The 21-year-old stole 27 bases over the 2021 and 2022 seasons and walked more times (56) than he struck out at the plate (49).

Joe Stewart:

Stewart, an outfielder from Portage, Michigan, comes to the Dust Devils following the Los Angeles Angels selecting him in the 9th round (268th overall) of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft. Stewart comes off a fantastic graduate transfer season at the University of Michigan, where he batted .349 for the Wolverines with 13 HRs and 56 RBI with 23 SBs. Previous to his time in Ann Arbor, Stewart played on the other side of the in-state rivalry, spending four years in East Lansing at Michigan State University. The 24-year-old played one full season for the Spartans, where in 2021 he hit .276 with five home runs. Stewart has a reputation for strong defense in the outfield, with a total of ten outfield assists and only four errors over 102 games.
