Boston Blazers News Release

Boston (August 25, 2008) - The National Lacrosse League (NLL) announced today the names of 40 prospects to compete at the professional indoor lacrosse league's combine, scheduled for Sept. 6 at the TD Banknorth Garden. Four New England-based players are among the top prospects eligible for selection in the NLL entry draft to be held in Boston on Sept. 7.

Former University of Massachusetts defensemen Sean Krygier of Madison, Conn. and Paul Manesis of Amherst, Mass. head the group of local players hoping to impress the NLL's 13 team general managers and scouts at the upcoming combine. They will be joined by Vermont's Trevor Wagar, a forward from Guelph, Ontario, (Canada) and Western New England's Mike Kelly, a forward from Cheshire, Conn. In addition, Chris Hettler and Andrew Szurley, a pair of goaltenders from Boston, will compete in the combine as free agents.

The expansion Blazers currently hold the rights to the first overall pick in the entry draft which will consist of six rounds for each of the 13 teams in the league to make their selections. A total of 76 players will be selected in the draft, which features the best young talent from NCAA lacrosse programs as well as Canada's junior lacrosse system.

Duke University's Matt Danowski, a forward from Farmingdale, N.Y., and Paul Rabil, a defenseman from Johns Hopkins who grew up in Washington, DC, are among the highly regarded national lacrosse talents scheduled to attend the combine. Rabil played for Major League Lacrosse's Boston Cannons and is one of their most popular players.

Many of the top overall prospects hail from the lacrosse hotbed of Western Canada. Daryl Veltman, a forward from Coquitlam, British Columbia, and Rhys Duch, a forward from Victoria, British Columbia will be among the first-round draft choices in the NLL entry draft. Veltman played college lacrosse at Hobart while Duch played at Stony Brook on Long Island.
