Columbus Wardogs News Release
Columbus, GA - The numbers are in and the Third Annual Top Dog Dinner & Auction was a smashing success, raising $61,000 for the Muscogee County Humane Society. The event, which is the 34-year-old shelter's largest annual fundraiser, has now grossed over $170,000 in three years. The funds are used to care for thousands of animals that pass through the shelter every year.
The Wardogs hosted this year's event on Thursday, June 19 on the football field inside the Columbus Civic Center. Over 600 guests attended the silent auction and enjoyed dinner, desert and drinks served by the Wardogs players and Wardolls dance team. The evening also included dancing and live music by Big Woody and the Splinters. Guests also had an opportunity to win prizes by kicking field goals.
"We are so appreciative for the Wardogs. Every year we've had more and more people attend, and everybody has a great time" said Joan Sammond, marketing director for the Humane Society.
"The money raised from the Top Dog Dinner accounts for a large part of our annual operating budget, and allows us to give proper medical treatment to the animals so we can find them loving homes."
The $61,000 was raised by ticket sales, corporate sponsorship and program ad sales, proceeds from the silent auction, sales from the cash bar, donations from field goal attempts, and tips to the players and Wardolls serving the food. Wardogs fullback Mesiah Porter was the top server, raising $523 in tips.
