Too (Much) Little, Too Late

BARRIE, ON – The Toronto St. Michael's Majors dug themselves an early hole this evening and weren't able to climb all the way out. In a penalty-filled contest, the Majors trailed the Barrie Colts 3-0 after the 1st period at the Molson Centre and ended up losing 4-3.

Ryan Hamilton got the Colts started at 5:41 of the 1st period when he notched a power-play strike off assists from B.J. Crombeen and Scott Hotham. Bryan Little then added his 15th of the season at 13:03 of the opening frame with helpers provided by Hotham and Lukas Bolf. Finally, the Colts rounded out their 1st period onslaught when Evan Brophey tallied on the power-play at 18:34. Assists on this strike were provided by Hotham and Hunter Tremblay.

The 2nd period was a different story as the Majors' offence came to life. Scott Lehman notched his 3rd goal of the season at 10:19 while the visitors were on the man-advantage. The lone assist was contributed by Sal Peralta. Then, Darryl Boyce tore down the wing and made it a one-goal game at 14:24 of the middle frame, with the lone helper going to Peralta once again.

Little added his 2nd goal of the game, in an unassisted effort at 11:03 of the 3rd period. Connor Cameron responded for the Majors on the power-play with just under three minutes to play with assists going to Ryan Wilson and Tyler Haskins. However, despite a couple of good chances in the dying minutes, the Majors couldn't find the equalizer.

The Majors outshot the Colts 32-26 and Barrie netminder Jeff Weber earned his 1st victory as a member of the Colts. He was named the game's 2nd star due to his strong performance. Meanwhile, Justin Peters turned aside 22 shots for the Majors. The game's other stars were Little (1st) and Boyce (3rd).

The Majors visit the Mississauga IceDogs on Wednesday, January 14th at 7:30 pm. They will be back at the St. Michael's College School Arena to face the Windsor Spitfires on Friday, January 16th at 7:30 pm. Then, they will host the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday, January 18th at 2:00 pm. It will be the 2nd Annual Majors' Charity Snow Bash during the Sudbury game. Kids' activities will begin in the arena parking lot at 12:00 pm and the silent auction will kick off in the lounge at 1:00 pm.
