Too Little Too Late

June 8, 2008 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Edmonton Chill News Release

For the second straight night the Edmonton Chill found themselves in a deep hole early in the second half as they trailed Windy City by as much as 23 before righting the ship in the fourth and putting on a furious charge led by JR Patrick and Rashaun Broadus who combined for 26 in the final 12 minutes. Unfortunately for the visiting club they shot just 60% from the free-throw line and would eventually fall for the third straight night, 133-125.

The Chill were able to hold a long conference call with Head Coach Paul Sir this afternoon and it certainly showed early as the team looked to be in much better sync early and trailed after the opening frame by just three, 35-32. However, in the second quarter, the appeared to lose their defensive focus, having particular trouble dealing with the screen and roll offense being employed by Head Coach Jay Bradford. The Soldiers were able to find space all night long and their shooters knocked down shots.

As the second half opened things continued to stall for Edmonton and the host side built a lead that went as high as 23 with three different Soldiers scoring six points in the frame and outscoring Edmonton 31-24 in the quarter. The fourth quarter seemed to move along with the holding steady around 19 until about four minutes remained and the Chill made a run. With the clubs five starters in the ball game Edmonton started to hit some shots and got the lead to 13 before Windy City pushed it back to 19. Still, Broadus and Patrick would not be denied as the led a furious late charge that saw them claw all the back to six before Windy City could compose themselves and stem the tide. The final nail for the Chill was the free throw shooting as the hit at just a 60% for the game and missed six of those during that final four minute spurt.

For the Chill they will get a much needed off-day before they return to the court on Tuesday at the Elgin Racers. Tentative game time for that is 6:15pm (MST) with the broadcast starting at about 6:10.
