Tomahawks Pick up Black Friday Win, Defeat Jets 2-1

The Johnstown Tomahawks used a strong performance from Ryan Bednard and a third period goal from Zach Zech to defeat the Janesville Jets 2-1 on Friday night at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena. The win moves Johnstown (11-8-1) into a tie with Springfield for third place in the north division.

The Tomahawks got on the board first, as Dakoda Menslage took his own rebound off of Janesville goaltender Jared Rutledge and slid the puck into the net from the right side at 16:22 of the first period. Cam Bleck and Steve Quagliata added the assist on the fifth goal of the season for Menslage.

Janesville (16-8-1) tied the game in the second period, as Cullen Munson found the puck inside a scrum in front of the net, chipping it past Bednard at 12:50. Kip Hoffmann added the assist on the goal.

Zach Zech set the final score at 8:19 of the third period, firing a shot over the glove of Rutledge.

Bednard earned his third win in his last five starts, while Jared Rutledge allowed two goals on 17 shots in the loss. The Tomahawks went 0-for-5 on the power-play, while continuing their success on the penalty kill, going a perfect 3-for-3.
