Falconer, Staub Score in Loss to Odessa

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Wichita Falls Wildcats had their seven-game win streak come to an end on Friday night, as they fell to the Odessa Jackalopes, 4-2, at the Ector County Coliseum.
Colin Staub and Alex Falconer both scored in the loss for the Wildcats, while Austin Beaulieu, Austin Albrecht and Jake Townsend notched assists in the contest, and David Zevnik made 29 saves on 32 shots faced.
Wichita Falls generated the first quality scoring change of the night, as Nikita Litviak gained the zone on the left-wing side and centered for Erich Jaeger, but Jaeger put his shot straight into the chest of Robin Johansson.
From then on, Odessa controlled the opening frame, and took a 2-0 lead into the intermission on a pair of special-teams tallies. First, Andreas Soje picked up his first goal of the year, deflecting home a point shot on the power play to make it 1-0. Then it was Hampus Sjodahl finding the net on a good individual effort with Odessa shorthanded, as his shoot snuck inside the left-hand post of David Zevnik to make it 2-0.
The 'Cats began to find their feet in the middle frame, and outshot the Jackalopes 12-8 in the frame, before finally making that pressure pay on a power-play goal in the latter stages of the second.
Beaulieu gained the zone at the left side and skated towards the top of the circle, before setting a shot on net that was saved. Following onto the rebound, Austin Albrecht had his shot turned away as well, but the rebound landed right on the stick of Staub to tuck home to make it 2-1 on his sixth goal of the season.
Odessa picked up an insurance goal early in the third period, as Sjodahl picked up his second goal of the night to make it 3-1, but Wichita Falls answered back to cut the lead to one once more.
Townsend rushed into the offensive zone, dangling around two men as he did so. As he reached to slot, he lost possession of the puck, but it reached Falconer to slam home to make it 3-2.
Wichita Falls ramped up the urgency after Falconer's goal, but could not find a way past Johansson, before Kenny Hausinger tallied an empty-net goal to complete the scoring, 4-2.
