Tomahawks Fall to Warriors, Split Weekend Series

The Johnstown Tomahawks scored first on Saturday night, but the Michigan Warriors scored four unanswered goals to take the second game of the two-game weekend series 4-1.

Just five seconds into a five-minute power-play, Cam Bleck got Johnstown (3-4-0) on the board, scoring after Steve Quagliata's original shot deflected off the pads of Michigan goaltender Ryan Wischow at 11:45 of the second period. Trevor Recktenwald also added an assist on Bleck's second goal of the season.

Mitch Wedding tied the game for Michigan (1-5-0) later in the period, taking a pass from Tyler Groat and scoring on a shot from above the left face-off circle at 6:02. Former Tomahawk Garrison Sanipass also had an assist on the goal.

The Warriors took the lead1:05 into the third period, as Sanipass deflected a shot from Wedding past Johnstown goaltender Ryan Bednard. Cam Jorgensen earned the second assist on the power-play goal.

Groat gave the Warriors a 3-1 lead later in the period, scoring a power-play goal on a shot from inside the left faceoff circle at 15:21. Wedding and Sanipass registered the assists on the goal. Groat set the final score just over a minute later, taking a long pass from Cody Lichtenvoort near the blue line and scoring at 16:27.

Wischow earned the win, stopping 27 of 28 shots. Bednard took the loss, stopping 25 of 29 shots. The Tomahawks went 1-for-8 on the power play, while the Warriors went 3-for-7.

The Tomahawks are off next weekend, before returning to Flint to take on the Warriors Oct. 10 and 11. They open the 2014-15 home schedule on Saturday Oct. 25 against the Keystone Ice Miners at 7 p.m.
