Brown Bears Earn Series Split with Win over Magicians
September 27, 2014 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Kenai River Brown Bears News Release
The Brown Bears rebounded from a tough loss last night with a solid win over divisional rival Minnesota Magicians. The Bears opened the game slow, but strong, steady play from new comer Josh Creelman in net helped keep the first half of the period scoreless. As the period progressed and things tightened up captain, Tyler Andrews (Bouvet, Rudin), stepped up with a goal to send the Brown Bears up a goal after twenty minutes.
The second period saw the Brown Bears coming out firing, scoring two goals in the first five minutes of play. The play from there became back and forth, as the Magicians began to get more desperate. They out shot the Bears 13-9 in the second period while scoring once, but the strong play of Creelman kept the Bears ahead 3-1 after two periods. Scoring for the bears in the second were: Jack Murphy (ODonnell) and Tanner Schachle (Gerson, Gessert)
The third period saw more desperation from the Magicians, but the Brown Bears responded while shutting down their opponents scoring chances. The Magicians grew frustrated and took three penalties over the final twenty minutes, and failed to out shoot the Brown Bears in the third. The Bears played tough and continued to push the pace in the third scoring twice more. Creelman saved all nine third period shots he faced and picked up his first Brown Bear and NAHL win. Third period scoring came from: Jack Gessert (Berglund, Nickels) and Jack Gessert (Rudin, Berglund)
The Brown Bears return to action Friday and Saturday at home Vs Minot at 7:30 pm.
