Tomahawks Comeback Falls Short in Home Opener

JOHNSTOWN- The Johnstown Tomahawks overcame a pair of multi-goal deficits, but an overtime goal gave the New Jersey Titans a 6-5 win Friday night.

New Jersey (8-2-1) struck first, as Keegan Miller took the rebound from an Andrew Durham shot, firing into the open net at 16:09 of the first period.

Miller extended the lead later in the period, as his shot from the slot found the back of the net. Anthony Cusanelli and Michael Egan each added assists on the goal.

The Titans extended their lead early in the second period, as Joseph Schuler scored a power-play goal 57 seconds into the second period. Cusanelli earned the assist on the goal.

Zak Galambos got the Tomahawks on the board, deflecting the puck out of the air and past goaltender Jack Berry at 8:27. Filips Buncis added the assist on the power-play goal.

Less than a minute later, Dante Suffredini pulled the Tomahawks back within one, as his shot made it over the shoulder of Berry at 8:55.

Tommy Horn tied the game for Johnstown (6-3-3), scoring at 12:29. Steven Quagliata and Niko Coffman added the assists on Horn's fifth of the season.

Late in the second period, Joe Nathe regained the lead for New Jersey, scoring with 1:45 remaining in the period. New Jersey extended its lead, as Raymond Brice scored at 11:23 of the third period.

Johnstown pulled back within one, as Andrew Romano scored on a shot inside the right face-off circle at 12:59. Filips Buncis tied the game just 22 seconds later. Coffman provided the assist on the power-play goal.

Bruno Birzitis scored the game-winner for the Titans, scoring 1:37 into the overtime period.
