Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA, FL -- Antoine "T.T." Toliver has rejoined the Tampa Bay Storm and could suit up when the Storm travel to Uniondale, NY, to face the New York Dragons on Sunday afternoon, head coach Tim Marcum announced.
Toliver signed with the Storm at mid-season last year and immediately contributed at the defensive specialist position. He then signed with the San Francisco 49ers in the off-season and later joined the practice squad of the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was released by the Bucs on Tuesday.
Toliver is expected to play wide receiver/defensive back for the Storm this season, and will bolster the team's kick return game as well. He played wide receiver for both the 49ers and Bucs.
"We're extremely excited about T.T. rejoining us for the stretch run," Marcum said. "His addition will definitely improve our team in all three aspects of the game -- offensively, defensively, and on special teams. He has tremendous big-play ability and will allow us to stretch the field even more than we already do. He also proved to be a pretty darn good defensive back last season, especially when you consider that he had never played on the defensive side of the ball prior to us throwing him into the fire."
Despite playing in just five regular season games a year ago, Toliver finished third on the team with 39.5 tackles. He also had five pass breakups and led the team with two interceptions in the regular season, while adding 12 more tackles and two additional interceptions in two postseason games.
Toliver also returned 12 kickoffs in the regular season for 351 yards (29.2 yards per returns), two of which he returned for touchdowns. His best return game came in the regular season finale against Georgia, when he set a Storm single game record with 317 combined return yards.
Having already clinched a playoff spot, the Storm travel to New York on Sunday afternoon for a crucial late-season contest. At 9-3, the Storm are tied with Los Angeles for the league's best record and lead both San Jose and Orlando by one game in the overall league standings.
The Dragons (5-7), who would receive the 12th and final playoff spot if the postseason were to start today, are looking to bolster their playoff position. They have won five of their last six games and, like the Storm, are one of the hottest teams in the league.
Sunday afternoon's game kicks off at 3:00 pm and will be televised live on NBC Sports. It can also be heard in the Tampa Bay area on 620-AM WDAE.
