Titans To Hold Open Tryout Saturday

Orlando Titans News Release

Orlando, Fla. (Nov. 6) -- More than 50 athletes, including close to a dozen with Central Florida high school connections, have pre-registered for Saturday's "Lacrossewear Open Tryout Camp" being conducted by the Orlando Titans at Barber Park in East Orlando.

The Titans, Central Florida's newest professional sports franchise, are scheduled to open play this January in the National Lacrosse League. The Titans are the first professional lacrosse franchise located and Florida and although high school lacrosse is a relatively new sport in Central Florida, Titans Director of Lacrosse Development and Operations Nate Snyder said he has been impressed with the number of locals that have pre-registered.

"High school programs in Florida were just developing in the earlier part of this decade," Snyder said. "All told we probably have two dozen players that have pre-registered for this camp who played high school lacrosse in the Sunshine State. The growth has been incredible."

Should one of the Orlando natives earn a contract during the tryout, he would not be the first from Florida to do so. Earlier this year, the Titans selected attack Ryan McCafferty out of Elizabethtown College (PA) in the 6th round of the NLL Entry Draft. McCafferty played lacrosse at Boone High School in Orlando. He became the first Central Floridian ever picked in the NLL Draft.

Registration for tomorrow's tryout begins at 11:30 a.m., with the tryout beginning at 12 noon. Titans coaches will evaluate the talent over a four-hour period. Finalists will be invited back to an "invitation-only" tryout on Sunday at 9 a.m.

"The tryout is part of our continuing commitment to develop lacrosse at both the professional and amateur levels in Florida," Snyder said. "This state is known for outstanding athletes and I think we'll see that at tomorrow's tryout."

The event is open to the media and the public. Players interested in trying out that pre-registered may do so tomorrow. Additional information may be found on www.orlandotitans.com.
