Cedar Rapids River Kings News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Titans have signed former Indiana University defensive back Tim Bennett. Bennett (5'9", 186 lbs.) spent three seasons with the Hoosiers after a brief stint at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls.
Throughout his three years at Indiana, Bennett compiled 157 tackles (125 solo), 32 pass breakups, eight and a half tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Bennett started 27 times, including every game during his junior and senior seasons.
"Tim is a great defensive back and won't have a problem switching his play to indoor rules," Titans co-owner and general Chris Kokalis said. "It's a pleasure to bring in some more Big Ten talent to compete for roster spots."
Bennett's most productive season as a Hoosier came in his junior when he notched 73 tackles (61 solo), tied for most in the Big Ten. Bennett recorded 21 pass breakups his junior season, most in the nation in 2013. He was voted Indiana's Defensive Teammate of the Year by fellow teammates and was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by the media.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity that I have been given to play with a great organization," Bennett reflected. "I just want a chance to showcase my skills and compete against some great talent across the Indoor Football League."
