Cedar Rapids River Kings News Release
CEDAR RAIDS - In the season finale of the inaugural season of the newly branded Cedar Rapids River Kings, the River Kings find a way to drop the second game of a two-game series with the Green Bay Blizzard 47-0.
The first quarter was pretty even-matched, as the Blizzard had a slim 7-0 lead over Cedar Rapids. This could have been due to the offense having a true quarterback in Wilkerson.
In the second quarter, the River Kings found themselves in a deep hole, as they are missing the remainder of their true quarterbacks have fallen due to injury with Wilkerson undergoing a left knee injury late in the first quarter. The players that stepped in were Drake White and Bryan Miller, but neither of them had much success. At the end of the second quarter, the Blizzard found themselves scoring 26 unanswered points.
The Blizzard found themselves successful on defense, as they were able to force a handful of fumbles, which all ended in touchdowns. At the end of the first half, Green Bay led the game 33-0, as Cedar Rapids had very limited success in the game, both on offense and defense. At the end of the third quarter, the River Kings had a combined six turnovers (3 interceptions, 3 fumbles).
In the fourth quarter, the River Kings' lack of momentum continued, as they failed to score any points in their final contest against the Blizzard. With a banged up team and a lot of guys in positions they have not played prior, this game is not one the River Kings want to refer to when looking back on in the future.
As the first season for the River Kings is in the books with a 47 - 0 loss to the Green Bay Blizzard, there is a lot of progress to be made, as there were not many successful finishes for Cedar Rapids, the win-loss record does not reflect the success the River Kings had. They were riddled with injuries to key players, which caused players play in positions they do not usually play. The good thing for future seasons is that they can only go up from here.
