Orlando Titans News Release

ORLANDO, Fla. (December 4, 2009) -- For the first time ever, the Orlando Titans will gather as a team when head coach Ed Comeau welcomes 34 players for the opening of training camp on Saturday.

The Titans, a member of the National Lacrosse League and Orlando's newest professional sports franchise, will hold its first weekend of training camp at Barber Park. The team will practice from 12-2 p.m. in the opening session and will hold a second session from 4-6 p.m. The team will also practice Sunday from 9-11 a.m.

"We're really excited about getting the team together for the first time," Titans President Steve Donner said. "We're still working on contracts of a couple of players, but the guys coming in this weekend will form the base of what promises to be an young and outstanding team."

The Titans, who were located in New York last season, finished the 2009 regular season with a 10-6 mark before posting two playoff wins to advance to Champions Cup final where they lost a heartbreaking 12-10 decision to Calgary.

Most of the big names from that team have re-signed for the 2010 season, including Casey Powell - one of top lacrosse players in US history. Powell was recently named to the all-decade team by Inside Lacrosse Magazine and is a former four-time All-American at Syracuse and four-time NLL All-Star. "I'm extremely excited to get started," Powell said. "The reception we have received so far in Orlando has been nothing short of incredible. Most of our guys are used to trudging through snow on their way to the arena for training camp; now our guys are going to be practicing outdoors in 70 degree weather. It's a welcome change."

Comeau will use the next five weekends to evaluate talent. The team will travel to Toronto next weekend for a series of scrimmages against league-opponents Minnesota and Rochester. Comeau must whittle his roster to 23 for the start of the regular season.

The eyes of the lacrosse world will be on Orlando for the season opener when the Titans host the Philadelphia Wings at Amway Arena on Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:35 p.m. It is the only game on the NLL's schedule for the opening weekend. Single game tickets, priced from $20-$35, go on sale tomorrow at the Amway Arena Box Office and all TICKETMASTER outlets. Season tickets, group tickets and additional information are available by calling the Orlando Titans Box Office at 407-601-6516 or visiting www.orlandotitans.com.
