
Titans Drop Barnburner to Reigning Intense Conference Champs

Cedar Rapids, IA - If you're a fan of football and a fan of high-scoring games, Friday night's Week Three Indoor Football League matchup between the host Cedar Rapids Titans (1-2) and visiting Nebraska Danger (2-0) certainly did not disappoint. In a shootout that lasted nearly four quarters, the Danger were named victors, toppling the Titans 78-71.
Titans rookie quarterback Dylan Favre led the Titans efforts on offense, completing 15 of 19 passes for 221 and six touchdowns. Favre added an additional 23 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Running back Waymon James rushed for a season-high 78 yards, recording a pair of touchdowns. James also had spectacular night on special teams, returning six for 138 kick return yards, including a kick returned for a touchdown.
Reigning IFL MVP Jameel Sewell led the Danger charge, throwing for 174 yards and four touchdowns on 10 (14 att.) passing completions. Sewell showed his versatility by adding 41 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Rookie running back Lyle McCombs rushed for 48 yards and 14 carries.
Indoor veteran Jared Elmore had a career game, as he was on the receiving end of three touchdowns. Elmore finished the game with six receptions for 123 yards. Wideout Charles Watkins caught four receptions for 44 yards (2 TD) while All-IFL receiver Ryan Balentine added 54 yards on five receptions and one touchdown.
Receivers OJ Simpson (5 rec., 94 yards) and Regginald Lewis Jr. (2 rec., 49 yards) each record two receiving touchdowns for the Danger.
Defensively, the Titans were paced by linebacker Niko Sierra. Sierra, a second-year player from Sacred Heart University, finished the night with 11 tackles, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble. Defensive back Fred Griggs notched nine stops and a fumble recovery while IFL career-sacks leader Xzavie Jackson finished the night with eight tackles and one tackle for loss.
Defensive back and former Nebraska Cornhusker Corey Cooper led the way for the Danger defense, notching 11 tackles, one-half sack, one tackle for loss, and one interception. Fellow defensive back Jabari Gorman added 10 stops and one tackle for loss while defensive lineman Ino Vitale made six tackles, three tackles for loss, and two blocked kicks.
The Titans are on the road next weekend as they head to Kennewick, WA to take on the Tri-Cities Fever (0-2). Kickoff is slated for 9:05 CST at the Toyota Center.
