Cedar Rapids River Kings News Release
Green Bay, WI - The Cedar Rapids Titans (8-4) completed their season sweep of a United Conference rival as they took down the Green Bay Blizzard (3-8) 36-12.
In one of the most exciting headlines off the season, Titans quarterback Dylan Favre played his first game in Green Bay, the place where his uncle Brett played the majority of his Hall of Fame career. Favre threw 12 pass completions (20 attempts) for 121 yards and three touchdowns.
Two of Favre's passing touchdowns come courtesy of wide receiver Jared Elmore. Elmore hauled in six receptions for 82 yards. Ryan Balentine was the only other Titans receiver to haul in a touchdown as he brought in two receptions for nine yards. Charles Watkins added 23 receiving yards on three receptions.
In a rough outing for the rookie from Green Bay, Blizzard quarterback Matt Behrendt completed just four of 21 passes for 60 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
In his second start at the running back position, rookie Dawan Scott had the most impressive game of his short professional career, recording 13 rushes for 82 yards and one touchdown. Favre added 40 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries.
Markeith Summers led the Blizzard receiving corps with one touchdown reception for 33 yards. Offensive weapon Chevelle Buie hauled in the only other touchdown for Green Bay on a 19-yard pass.
The Titans' defense proved again why they're one of the league's top defenses as they held Green Bay to just 59 yards of total offense. The Cedar Rapids defense, which has allowed 19 points in the past two games, sacked Behrendt five times.
Defensive lineman Jermiah Price anchored the Titans' defense with seven tackles, three and half tackles for loss, and two and a half sacks. Linebacker Niko Sierra had five tackles and one blocked kick while defensive lineman, and IFL career sacks leader Xzavie Jackson made three stops, one and half tackles for loss, and a sack. Cedar Rapids defensive back Antoine Tharpe recorded the lone interception of the game.
The Titans return home next weekend as they take on the in-state rival Iowa Barnstormers in the second annual Iowa Bowl. Tickets are on sale now through the U.S. Cellular Center Box office or online through Ticketmaster.com.
